What is a MICR Line?

MICR stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. It is a highly specialized character recognition technology primarily utilized by the banking industry to streamline the processing and clearance of cheques and other financial documents.

When you look at the bottom of a standard bank check, you will see a string of numbers printed in a unique, computer-readable font (most commonly the E-13B font). This sequence of numbers contains all the vital information required to process a transaction.
